Possible power outages in northern parts of Calif.,, US, Aug. 17-19. Transport and commercial disruptions possible.

Warning

Event

Power outages are possible in parts of northern California due to a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) from 18:00 Aug. 17-14:00 Aug. 19. Authorities have forecast high winds and dry conditions, which pose a considerably increased wildfire risk. The event will affect around 51,000 customers in parts of 18 counties. Potentially affected counties include Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Lassen, Mendocino, Napa, Nevada, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Solano, Sonoma, Tehama, Trinity, Yolo, and Yuba.

Commercial, transport, and internet disruptions are possible. Businesses without backup generators may have to suspend operations. Traffic lights may not function, resulting in traffic disruptions, and public transport that relies on power may be affected. Lingering disruptions are possible after regular supply resumes.

Advice

Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Ensure that generators are functional if operating in affected areas. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are working, including after power resumes. Follow all security personnel instructions.
