An explosion occurred at a traffic police station near City Mart in Mayangon Township, Yangon, at around 13:30 Oct. 11. Reports indicate that the blast injured several people including security personnel and civilians. Military forces cordoned off the area following the incident. No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion.

Context

Explosions continue to occur in Yangon and other parts of Myanmar amid ongoing civil unrest following the Feb. 1 military coup. Most incidents target security forces, government offices, or individuals and organizations supporting the military. Additional blasts, pro-democracy demonstrations, and clashes between protesters and security personnel are likely in the coming weeks.
