Bangladesh: Awami League party to rally at Shahid Hadis Park in Khulna Dec. 1

The ruling Awami League (AL) party plans to rally at Khulna's Shahid Hadis Park Dec. 1 to mobilize greater political support amid the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) ongoing three-month political campaign. Similar previous demonstrations have attracted thousands of participants.

Authorities will almost certainly tighten security near the gathering site. Clashes between AL activists and police, as well as between AL supporters and counterdemonstrators, are possible. Demonstrators could also march along and/or block roadways, prompting localized transport disruptions.

Avoid the rally as a standard security precaution. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Allow extra time to reach destinations near the rally venue through the evening of Dec. 1. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
