Spain: Air traffic controllers at 16 Spanish airports to strike Jan. 30

Air traffic controllers at 16 Spanish airports to strike Jan. 30. Further action is scheduled through February.

Warning

Event

Air Traffic Control workers affiliated with the CCOO and USCA unions at 16 Spanish airports plan to strike Jan. 30. The strike relates to ongoing disputes with employers over pay and working conditions; further strikes are planned each Monday through Feb. 27. The affected airports are:

  • A Coruna Airport (LCG)

  • Alicante-Elche Airport (ALC)

  • Castellon Airport (CDT)

  • Cuatro Vientos

  • El Hierro (VDE)

  • Fuerteventura Airport (FUE)

  • Ibiza Airport (IBZ)

  • Jerez Airport (XRY)

  • Lanzarote Airport (ACE)

  • La Palma Airport (SPC)

  • Lleida Airport (ILD)

  • Murcia Airport (RMU)

  • Sabadell Airport (QSA)

  • Seville Airport (SVQ)

  • Valencia Airport (VLC)

  • Vigo Airport (VGO)

Unless averted, the strikes will likely lead to flight and airport disruptions, including delays and cancellations, at affected airports; related disruptions are possible at all Spanish airports and for flights using Spanish airspace. Lingering disruptions are likely at affected airports following the conclusion of the strike as airlines reposition aircraft and crew and work through passenger backlogs.

Advice

Contact airlines to confirm flight status if booked to fly via Spanish airports Jan. 30-31. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Arrive at airports early to prevent your seat from being allocated to a standby passenger.
