Zambia: TAZARA rail transport operator suspends operations nationwide April 12 following accident

TAZARA rail transport operator suspends operations in Zambia on April 12 following accident. Likely transport disruptions.

Informational

Event

The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) announced on April 12 it was temporarily suspending its operations in Zambia. This follows an accident on a rail bridge in Mpika involving a rescue crane, which has reportedly rendered travel between Mbeya in Tanzania and Kasama in Zambia impossible. Trains will continue to run in Tanzania. TAZARA has not indicated when transport would resume.

Services will likely take several hours to return to normal once the line has been repaired.

Advice

Reconfirm all TAZARA rail service bookings. Prepare for disruptions on alternative available transport.
