New Zealand: Networkwide rail disruptions ongoing in Auckland due to power outage morning of May 5

Networkwide railway disruptions ongoing in Auckland, New Zealand, following power outage morning of May 5.

Warning

Event

Rail disruptions are ongoing across Auckland due to a power outage on the morning of May 5. KiwiRail services reported a power line fault prompting the cancellation of all Western and Onehunga lines. The network has since been restored; however, Eastern Line services will only operate between Otahuhu and Manukau, and the Onehunga Line is canceled pending further notice. Auckland Transport announced lingering disruptions are expected to continue most of the day.

Available rail services will likely experience crowding; demand for alternative means of transport will probably be higher. Consider using scheduled bus services.

Advice

Consider using alternative transport for time-sensitive travel. Allow extra time to reach destinations due to increased traffic congestion as the demand for alternative transportation rises.
