Norway: Climate activists to protest in Sandefjord, Jan. 16-17

Climate activists to stage protest at energy conference in Sandefjord, Norway, Jan. 16-17. Heightened security, disruptions likely.

Warning

Climate activists plan to stage a protest at the Oil and Energy Policy Seminar in Sandefjord, Jan. 16-17. The Extinction Rebellion (XR) Norway group has threatened to "close' the conference in Scandic Park, Sandefjord. It is not known how many protesters are likely to take part. XR Norway has been increasingly active in recent days, having targeted the Department of Energy in Oslo with green paint on Jan. 2.

Authorities will likely deploy heightened security and a significant police presence at the conference site. The protests are likely to remain peaceful although demonstrators may attempt to disrupt transport and security processes in the vicinity of the event.

Expect travel delays and disruptions in the immediate vicinity of the protest site. If attending the conference, allow extra time for arrival and security processes. Follow local travel and security advice. In the event of scuffles, withdraw from the area.
