US: Flight disruptions likely to continue at central and south Florida airports due to high air traffic volume in region March 28

Flight delays and cancellations likely at airports in central and south Florida, US, due to congested airspace in region March 28.

Warning

Flight delays and cancellations are likely at airports in central and south Florida well into the evening of March 28 due to the high volume of air traffic and thunderstorm events off the state's Atlantic Coast. As of around 17:30, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a ground stop at Orlando International Airport (MCO), as well as ground and departure delay programs at several airports in the region including Tampa International Airport (TPA), Palm Beach International Airport (PBI), Naples Airport (APF), Miami International Airport (MIA), and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), with delays averaging 60 to 129 minutes.

The FAA may issue additional ground stops and/or ground delay programs for airports in central and south Florida over the coming hours. The air traffic control measures could be extended or rescinded on short notice.

Confirm flight schedules if booked to fly via an airport in central or south Florida through at least the end of March 28. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
