Authorities are responding to a large fire at the Schoeppenstedter Turm Industrial Site on Helmstedter Strasse on the afternoon of April 16. Due to the risk of an explosion, authorities are enforcing a 1-km (1,094-yard) evacuation zone around the site. The A39 highway is closed near the affected area due to heavy smoke, and authorities are diverting public transport to avoid the area.

The evacuation order, road closures, and heightened security will continue until authorities give the all-clear. Heavy smoke is possible near the fire site until authorities bring the flame under control.
