Authorities plan to defuse a WWII-era bomb in the Schwentine Estuary in Kiel on April 14. Officials are planning to establish an exclusion zone with a maximum radius of about 1,000 meters (1,094 yards); police have instructed people within the zone to leave no later than 11:00. Officials did not immediately specify how long the disposal operation would take to complete.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security presence in the affected area until the end of the operation. Significant, short-term disruptions to transport and business are likely on April 14 in the Ellerbek, Neumuehlen-Dietrichsdorf, and Wellingdorf neighborhoods, including transport via the Dietrichsdorfer Bruecke ferry terminal.

Avoid the affected area April 14 until authorities give the all-clear. Allow additional time if traveling near the exclusion zone. Heed instructions from local security personnel.
