Mexico: Activists from Ayotzinapa aim to protest in Mexico City through May 1

Activists from Ayotzinapa to protest in Mexico City, Mexico, through May 1; heightened security and localized disruptions likely.

Warning

Activists from Ayotzinapa, Guerrero State, are planning to stage demonstrations in Mexico City through at least May 1 to demand justice for family members kidnapped from Ayotzinapa in 2014. Organizers have announced a series of actions, including a planned march in downtown Mexico City from 16:00 on April 26. Participants will gather at the Angel de la Independencia and march toward the Zocalo, where they will protest near the National Palace; organizers also stated sit-in demonstrations would occur at the Zocalo until May 1.

Although the action should remain largely peaceful, authorities will likely maintain a heightened security posture over the coming days. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely near any demonstrations that materialize.

As a precaution, avoid all demonstrations. If operating near an impacted area, allow additional time to reach destinations. Seek alternative routes to circumvent any related transport disruptions near affected areas. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
