Mexico: Labor activists to protest in downtown Mexico City April 23

Labor activists to stage demonstration in central Mexico City, Mexico, 16:00 April 23. Increased security, disruptions likely.

Warning

Labor activists affiliated with the Coordinator of Workers of Mexico City (Coordinadora de Trabajadores and Trabajadoras de la Ciudad de Mexico) plan to protest in downtown Mexico City from 16:00 on April 23. The purpose of the action is to demand that the city mayor meet with them to address a variety of demands, including improved benefits and working conditions. Organizers have indicated that they will protest at the intersection between Avenida Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida Insurgentes Sur and the intersection between Eje Central Lazaro Cardenas and Fray Servando Teresa de Mier.

Although the action will probably remain largely peaceful, authorities will likely maintain an increased security presence near the impacted area as a precaution. Transport and business disruptions will likely occur in the area during the demonstration. Clashes between the authorities and protesters cannot be ruled out, especially if security forces attempt to disperse the gathering forcibly.

Avoid the demonstrations as a precaution. Seek alternative routes to circumvent the protest area and related transport disruptions. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating near the impacted areas. Heed the instructions of authorities.
