UK: Severe weather forecast for large parts of UK July 30-31

Weather officials warn of thunderstorms and heavy rain on July 30-31; flooding and associated transportation disruptions possible

Warning

Event

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for large parts of the UK for Tuesday, July 30, and Wednesday, July 31. Heavy rain - up to 30mm (1.2in) of rain in some areas - and thunderstorms are forecast, which may cause localized flooding. Associated transportation disruptions are possible, including adverse driving conditions and delays or cancelations of train and bus services in the region. Flight disruptions may also occur. The Met Office also warned of the possibility of power outages.

Advice

Individuals in the affected area are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations and road conditions prior to setting out, budget additional travel time, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. It is important to note that that walking or driving through floodwaters can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
