Flooding in Assam state leaves 4 dead July 29; heavy rain to continue nationwide July 30–August 2

Flooding in Assam state left four people dead on Monday, July 29. Water levels in the area are reportedly receding as of Tuesday, July 30. The India Meteorological Department stated that Odisha, south Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Telangana states are likely to continue to experience heavy rainfall until Friday, August 2. The Meteorological Center issued a "red warning" for the Odisha state districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nowrangpur until Tuesday, and Himachal Pradesh state is under a "yellow warning" until Wednesday, July 31, due to forecast heavy rainfall.

Further rainfall and associated disruptions, including transportation disruptions, are likely in the affected states over the coming days.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, avoid areas directly affected by flooding, confirm road conditions and flight reservations before setting out, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
