Latvia: Severe wind warnings in place March 12-13

Weather officials issue severe wind and storm warnings for west and southwestern parts of Latvia for March 12-13; associated disruptions possible

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVĢMC) has issued red weather warnings (the highest on a four-tier scale) for western and southwestern parts of the country from Thursday, March 12, into Friday, March 13. Strong winds of up to 90 mph (56 mph) are expected to impact the region before decreasing on Friday evening (local time). Orange wind warnings (the second highest on a four-tier scale) are in effect for the rest of the country, including the capital Riga. Related transportation disruptions, hazardous driving conditions, and power outages are possible through Friday.
