Event
Nationwide demonstrations are scheduled to take place throughout Iraq on Friday, November 27. The demonstrations have been organized by activists associated with Shia Muslim cleric Muqtada al-Sadr in support of his candidacy in the June 2021 parliamentary elections and had originally been scheduled to be held on Tuesday, November 24, but were delayed. In Baghdad, participants are set to gather in Tahrir Square from 15:00 (local time). Protests may also be held in southern provinces with the exception of Karbala and Najaf.
A heightened security presence and localized transport disruptions should also be expected in the vicinity of the demonstrations.
