Police and protesters clashed in Ikongo, Fitovinany Region, Aug. 29, leaving 14 people dead and 29 more injured. Residents were protesting against the abduction of an albino child the week prior; violence erupted when they tried to force their way into the police post where the alleged kidnappers were being detained.

Further protests to denounce the killings are likely in the area in the coming days. Security personnel will almost certainly remain deployed in the area in the coming days and may move forcefully to disperse demonstrators; violence is therefore possible. Additionally, police deployments and protests will likely result in ground travel and business operation disruptions.
