Zambia: Authorities have halted nationwide power cuts /update 3

Authorities in Zambia have halted nationwide power cuts following increased water levels at hydropower stations.

Informational

Event

As of Feb. 28, Zambia's energy provider, ZESCO, has halted nationwide power cuts following increased power generation at the Itezhi-Tezhi and Lusemfwa hydropower stations. Heavy rainfall in early 2023 has replenished two of Zambia's dams, allowing for increased electricity production and the progressive decrease of power cuts. Zambia's main hydropower station in Kariba currently operates at reduced levels and will likely resume full operations in March. Continuous power was restored nationwide on Feb. 9.

Power outages could resume on short notice should water levels drop below operating levels.
