Meteorological authorities issue several snow alerts across the country February 19-20; anticipate transportation disruptions

Meteorological authorities issued yellow weather alerts for snow across the country with the exception of the Western Region (Vesturland). The alerts are expected to remain in effect from Wednesday, February 19, at 10:32 (local time) through Thursday, February 20, at 07:00. An orange alert for strong winds is also in effect in the southeast where wind gusts of up 126 kph (78 mph) are expected. Authorities advised to avoid any travel due to poor visibility and snow accumulation, and other weather-related hazards.
