Warning

Event

Officials have increased security measures in Kunduz following disruptive protests that broke out Jan. 15. Protesters, angered by radio stations allegedly broadcasting music during Friday prayers, vandalized one radio station in the city. They also attempted to march to two additional radio stations but were prevented by security forces. Additional disruptive protests could break out in the following days.

Police will likely continue to deploy tight security measures in Kunduz as a precaution. Roadblocks and additional security checkpoints will likely be maintained, especially near radio stations. Localized transport disruptions may occur. Clashes between police and protesters are possible if additional protests are held.

Advice

Allow additional travel time throughout Kunduz. Avoid all protests due to the potential for violence. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately. Heed all instructions from security personnel.
