Students from Dhaka University are staging rallies in Dhaka for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, January 15, to protest the chosen date for the north and south Dhaka's local elections on Thursday, January 30, which falls on a Hindu holiday.

A student march, originally scheduled to take place from Dhaka University campus to the Election Commission in Agargeon, has been blocked by police at the Shahbagh intersection, where students continued to stage protest in the afternoon (local time) on Wednesday.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are expected in the vicinity of the protest over the coming hours.
