On Friday, April 17, unidentified gunmen opened fire on security personnel outside a mosque in Lashkargah (Helmand province). According to media reports, a police chief and his security guard were killed in the attack, along with a civilian. At least one person was also wounded in the incident. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Similar attacks are possible in Helmand province over the near term.
