India: Grenade attack injures two in Srinagar January 8

At least two civilians injured in a grenade attack in Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) January 8; similar attacks possible over the near term



At least two civilians were injured in a grenade attack targeting security forces in Habak Chowk (Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir) at around 13:00 (local time) on Wednesday, January 8.

Authorities cordoned off the area and an investigation is ongoing. Details are still emerging.

A heightened security presence and transportation disruptions are expected in the vicinity of the incident over the coming hours. Similar militant attacks are possible in Jammu and Kashmir over the near term.


Individuals in Jammu and Kashmir state are advised to monitor developments, remain vigilant for militant activity, avoid public demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.

Some Western governments advise their citizens against travel to parts of Kashmir, notably including areas along the Line of Control (LoC), due to the significant risk of violence.
