Ethiopia: African Union Executive Council session in Addis Ababa Feb. 6-7

Addis Ababa will host a session of the African Union Executive Council from February 6-7; heightened security presence and localized disruptions expected



The 36th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) will be held in Addis Ababa from Thursday, February 6, through Friday, February 7. Foreign ministers and representatives of AU countries are expected to attend the summit at the organization’s headquarters in Addis Ababa. UN Secretary General António Guterres is also planning to participate in the meeting on February 7.

Heightened security measures, including checkpoints, vehicle checks, and increased security personnel are to be expected throughout Addis Ababa during and following the summit. Associated disruptions, including road closures and increased traffic congestion, are also anticipated


Individuals in or traveling to Addis Ababa are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate a heightened security presence and transportation disruptions near the summit venue, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
