Barbados: Political rallies planned May 14

Political rallies expected in Barbados May 14; localized traffic congestion expected around gathering sites

Political meetings and rallies are expected to be held in Barbados on the evening of Monday, May 14 (local time). The Barbados Labour Party (BLP) is expected to hold meetings at several locations at 19:00. The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) is also planning to hold meetings at 19:30 at several different locations. A comprehensive list of political meeting places is available on the US Overseas Security Advisory Council's (OSAC) website. Localized traffic congestion is expected near any gatherings.

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart has announced that parliamentary elections will be held on May 24. Political campaigning began on May 7. The Barbadian parliament has been dissolved since March 6, following the end of its five-year tenure. While the dissolution occurred as scheduled, political tensions increased in the country following the dissolution as no election date was quickly chosen.

Individuals in Barbados are advised to avoid protests and political rallies as a precaution, as well as polling stations on election day.
