Northern Mariana Islands: Saipan International Airport closed until further notice

Saipan International Airport closed, potentially until November 25, following severe damage caused by typhoon

According to the US Federal Aviation Agency, Saipan International Airport (SPN) will remain closed until November 25 due to damages sustained during the passage of Typhoon Yutu, a Category 5 storm. This date is subject to change. The airport will, however, be temporarily reopened to outbound commercial flights on Sunday, October 28. Tinian International Airport (TIQ), which also sustained damage, is likely to reopen within a week.

Super Typhoon Yutu slammed the Mariana Islands overnight October 24-25. Homes and critical infrastructure sustained severe damage.

Travelers are advised to confirm flight statuses and contact their airlines for further details.
