India: Death toll rises amid flooding in Assam July 19 /update 2

Authorities report additional damages and fatalities following flooding in Assam on July 19; further flooding expected



The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) issued a report on Sunday, July 19, stating that the death toll following the flooding in Assam has risen to at least 79 people. The report further stated that the river Brahmaputra was flowing above dangerous levels across the state. A total of 26 districts have so far been affected by the flooding, as well as over 2678 villages. The government has opened 649 relief camps to date, providing relief to over 47,000 people.

Flooding, landslides, and transportation and business disruptions, as well as disruptions to power and communications services, are expected in Assam State in the coming days.
