Chile: Gatherings scheduled in Santiago and Temuco January 3

Groups schedule gatherings in Santiago and Temuco in commemoration of Mapuche man’s death January 3; transportation disruptions likely



Civil and indigenous groups have scheduled gatherings in Santiago and Temuco for Friday, January 3, in commemoration of the death of a Mapuche man 12 years ago. In Temuco, participants are scheduled to gather at 16:00 (local time) for a concert at the Isla Cautin Amphitheatre. Participants in Santiago are scheduled to gather for a commemorative march at Cerro Huelen as of 18:00 and will later proceed to Plaza de la Dignidad at 19:00.

A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the gathering and march.
