Togo: Opposition protest scheduled in Lomé December 28

Anti-government demonstration planned in Lomé December 28; heightened security presence and transportation disruptions expected



The "En Aucun Cas" civil society group has called for a protest march in Lomé on Saturday, December 28, to denounce President Faure Gnassingbé's intention to run for a fourth consecutive mandate and ask the release of political prisoners. Participants are due to meet at 10:00 (local time) in the Gakpoto area before heading to the Eglise des assemblées de Dieu de Kpota.

A heightened security presence and transpiration disruptions are to be expected along the march route.


Individuals present in Lomé are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid any large gatherings and demonstrations due to the risk of violence, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities or their home government.
