Warning

Event

Additional demonstrations in Siliana city in Siliana Governorate, Tunisia, remain likely through late January following violent clashes between security forces and protesters Jan. 15. Protests erupted after reports emerged that security forces had assaulted a shepherd outside the city's municipality.

Protesters blocked the town's main roads by burning tires and hurled rocks at police who attempted to disperse the demonstration by firing tear gas. Tunisian authorities could deploy additional security forces to the town to restore order and protect government facilities if the unrest persists.

Further violence remains likely between police and protesters, mainly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or attempt to set government and public property on fire.

Monitor local media for protest activity, as organizers may not announce plans in advance. Confirm the availability of transport and allow additional time to reach destinations. Plan for increased security and localized transport disruptions near demonstrations. Follow all police instructions.
