France: Paris commuter rail RER A line closures late July through August
Portions of the commuter rail RER A line to close in and around Paris from the end of July through August for scheduled maintenance
Event
Rail work scheduled on Paris’s RER A commuter rail line this summer will result in extended station closures in and around the capital in July and August. The Charles de Gaulle-Etoile, Auber, Châtelet-Les Halles, and Gare de Lyon stations will be closed from July 29 to August 27. Outside of Paris, the RER A will not run between Maisons-Laffitte and Poissy during this same period. Between Satrouville and Cergy-Le-Haut, the RER A line will be closed on the weekends of July 29-30, August 5-6, and August 12-13. Replacement buses will operate in certain areas.
Other delays on Paris’ underground metro and RER network are possible during the RER A maintenance period; increased traffic congestion is also likely as commuters seek out alternate means of transportation.
Context
This maintenance work represents the third phase of RER A improvements and modernization, which started in 2015. Portions of the RER A were also closed in the summers of 2015 and 2016.
The RER A line is the busiest commuter line in Europe.
Advice
Travelers are advised to plan for alternative routes during the abovementioned periods.
