Hong Kong: Cyclone Merbok downgraded; flights disrupted /update 1

Nearly 400 flights disrupted June 12-13 due to heavy downpours brought by Cyclone Merbok, now downgraded to tropical depression

Tropical Cyclone Merbok was downgraded to a tropical depression at 12:30 (local time) on Tuesday, June 13. Nearly 400 flights were disrupted from Monday, June 12, through the early morning of Tuesday, June 13, with 44 flights canceled and 350 delayed. Several schools have been closed.

According to the Hong Kong Observatory, Merbok is forecast to continue bringing heavy rain to the island over the next few days. Flooding is possible.

Individuals present in Hong Kong are advised to keep abreast of weather reports and to adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities. In the event of flooding, remember that driving or walking through floodwater can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
