Heavy thunderstorm hits Moscow on June 30 causing some flight delays; at least two people killed

Thunderstorms brought strong winds and heavy rain to Moscow on Friday, June 30. At least two people have been killed, including a man who was struck by lightning, and another five people injured by the storm. A number of flights were reportedly delayed or canceled at the Domodedovo International Airport (DME) and the Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO). The Moscow Central Circle railway system has also suspended services due to trees falling onto the lines. According to the Ministry of Energy, thousands of residents in the Moscow area have lost power.
Current government forecasts predict that the storm will last until the early hours of Saturday, July 1.

Individuals in Moscow are advised to follow local weather forecasts, to adhere to any advice issued by regional authorities (e.g. potential evacuation orders), and to confirm travel plans. In the event of flooding, keep in mind that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
