Greece: Over 100 people injured and two killed in Kos by earthquake 7/21 /update 1

Event

At least 100 people have been injured and two killed on the island of Kos due to a 6.7 magnitude earthquake that hit during the early morning of Friday, July 21. The casualties were caused by an old building collapsing. 

The earthquake was reported 16 km (10 mi) south of Kos and 10 km (6 mi) from the Turkish resort town Bodrum. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a small tsunami, advising people in affected areas to avoid beaches and seek high ground. There have been reports of multiple aftershocks.

Individuals present in areas affected by the earthquake are advised to follow any instructions issued by local authorities and be prepared for potential aftershocks. Only use your telephone in case of urgency to leave communication lines open for emergency services.

After an earthquake, check for injuries and take note of your surroundings. If your building is damaged, shut off the water, gas, and electricity lines, and evacuate.
