United Kingdom: British Airways strike extended through August 30 /update 6

Event

British Airways cabin crew employees have announced that they will extend the current long-running strike through Wednesday, August 30. British Airways has announced that only minor flights disruptions are to be expected. According to the airline, all flights to and from  London-Gatwick (LGW), London City (LCY), and London-Stansted (STN) international airports will operate normally, as will weekend flights between Mediterranean destinations and Birmingham (BHX), Bristol (BRS), and Manchester (MAN) airports. The majority of flights to and from London-Heathrow (LHR) are also expected to operate as usual.

Context

The mixed-fleet cabin crews, represented by the United Union, already launched two strikes in July to campaign for better pay, including one that is ongoing (July 19 to August 30). The previous strike was held July 1 to July 16.

In order to minimize disruptions as a result of these strikes, British Airways has been leasing both planes and personnel from partner airline Qatar Airways for to ensure normal continuation of service.
