Significant disruption to rail travel to and from London August 5 to September 2 due to major engineering works; adjust travel plans accordingly

Warning

Event

Major engineering work is causing significant travel disruptions to train services to and from London, which are expected to continue through September 2. Thousands of trains will be canceled or delayed. The disruptions will be particularly severe during the August Bank Holiday weekend (August 26-28). The worst and most prolonged disruptions are expected at Waterloo Station; the UK’s busiest station will have half of its platforms closed from August 5-28, and many trains on the South West lines are expected to be canceled. Furthermore, travel between Wales and London will be impacted by engineering works in the Bristol Parkway area up to September 15.

Travel to and from the following London stations will also be affected:

  • Charing Cross: no Southeastern service August 26 to September 2
  • London Euston: station closed August 26 and 27
  • Liverpool Street: no service to and from Shenfield, Ingatestone, Billericay, or Barking August 27 and 28
  • London Bridge: no Southeastern services August 26 to September 2
  • Paddington: routes between London and Wales disrupted by engineering work in Bristol Parkway area August 10 to September 15
  • Waterloo East: no Southeastern service August 26 to September 2
  • Waterloo Station: platforms 1-10 closed August 5-28; platforms 1-14 closed August 25-28

Advice

Those intending to travel to and from London during these periods should confirm train statuses at the National Rail Enquiries website. Prepare for significant delays and extra congestion on roads and available rail services, especially over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
