US-Canada: Major flight disruptions August 2-3 due to storms

Storms expected to result in flight disruptions for second day August 3 in central and eastern US and Canada

Warning

Event

Thunderstorms are expected to result in flight disruptions on Thursday, August 3, in the eastern and central areas of the United States and Canada. Hundreds of flights were also canceled August 2 in the northeast due to adverse weather conditions, and numerous others significantly delayed (up to six hours). Continued disruptions are expected August 3, including at airports in New York (JFK, LGA, EWR), Boston (BOS), Chicago (ORD), Dallas (DGW), Denver (DEN), Hartford (BDL), Philadelphia (PHL), Washington, DC (BWI, DCA, IAD), and Toronto (YYZ), particularly in the afternoon and evening. As many of these airports are major hubs, knock-on disruptions are possible in other parts of the country as well, including into August 4.

Advice

Travelers are advised to confirm the status of their flights prior to departure for the airport.
