New Zealand: Flight disruptions at Auckland Airport Sep. 17-24

Dozens of flights canceled after pipeline carrying jet fuel to Auckland airport ruptures; confirm travel reservations

Warning

Event

Thousands of passengers are stranded in Auckland International Airport (AKL) after 27 flights were canceled on Sunday, September 17, after the main jet fuel pipeline serving the airport was accidentally cut by a mechanical digger. Flight delays and cancelations at AKL are expected to last through at least September 24 as work continues to repair the pipeline.

According to airport authorities, at least 2000 passengers a day will be affected by cancelations, as the volume of fuel available to all airlines is restricted to 30 percent of normal usage.

Advice

Individuals planning on traveling to, from, or via AKL are advised to confirm their flight reservations and contact their airlines for more information.
