Philippines: Three dead, six missing due to flooding as of Sep. 13 /update 1

Event

At least three people had been reported dead and six missing as of Wednesday, September 13, due to flooding caused by Tropical Storm Talim (locally referred to as Lannie), which made landfall on September 11. Severe and widespread flooding has been reported in Manila, and schools, government offices, and many businesses were closed on Wednesday as a result. Flash floods caused by the storm swept through Calamba City on September 12, reportedly carrying off six people, who remain missing. General flood advisories remain in effect throughout the country. Context

The Philippines regularly experiences typhoons and tropical storms during monsoon season - which spans from November to April in the northeast, and from May to October in the southwest. During the 2016 monsoon season, two typhoons and one tornado hit the Philippines.

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to follow all instructions as issued by local authorities, to keep abreast of the situation via local media, and to be prepared to leave immediately if an evacuation order is given. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
