United Kingdom: Monarch Airlines in administration Oct. 2; all flights cancelled

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has said that the airline and tour operator Monarch has gone into administration on Monday, October 2. All flights from the UK have been cancelled, which amounts to some 300,000 bookings, and will not be rescheduled. The CAA will repatriate 110,000 of the airline’s customers back to the UK.

Context

The company had been in talks with the CAA to renew its license to sell package holidays. Monarch, the UK’s fifth biggest airline, operates from London Luton, London Gatwick, Manchester, Lees-Bradford, and Birmingham airports to over 40 destinations.

Advice

All Monarch flights from the UK are cancelled; Monarch customers yet to fly should not go to the airport.

Monarch customers oversees due to fly in the next fortnight will be brought back to the UK (at no cost). Customers should check the dedicated website (monarch.caa.co.uk) for confirmation of new flight details, and continue to check for any further changes.
