United Kingdom: Public transportation strikes Nov. 8-9
Rail workers to strike on November 8-9, with train delays and cancelations expected on five rail networks; Liverpool public transportation to strike November 8
Event
The Rail, Maritime, and Transport (RMT) union has announced a new 48-hour strike to start on Wednesday, November 8, as part of an ongoing dispute over the role of train guards and driver-only operations on trains. Other unions, including Merseyrail and Arriva Rail North, will join the strike effort on November 8 for 24 hours.
Greater Anglia rail company will continue to offer full service in Essex county amid the planned rail workers' strike. According to Greater Anglia, they will be able to continue services throughout most of Essex county because they do not use conductors. The areas on the Greater Anglia line expected to be most severely affected by the rail workers' strike will be those that employ conductors on their trains and lines in the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk, and parts of Cambridgeshire.
As a result, major delays and cancelations are expected on Southern, South Western Railways, Greater Anglia, and Island Line rail routes on Wednesday, November 8, and Thursday, November 9. Meanwhile, disruptions are anticipated on Arriva Rail North and Merseyrail rail lines on November 8.
Furthermore, bus workers from major operator Arriva are set to strike on Wednesday, November 8, bringing significant disruptions to public transportation in the northwestern county of Merseyside. Bus and rail services connecting Liverpool International Airport (LPL) to the city center are expected to be delayed or suspended, accompanied by associated traffic congestion and increased demand for taxis.
Advice
Travelers are advised to expect significant transportation disruptions on the abovementioned dates and to make arrangements for alternative means of transportation.
