Islamic State claims responsibility for attack on TV station in Kabul November 7; at least one killed and 23 wounded
Event
Three gunmen attacked the Shamsah TV building in Kabul on Tuesday, November 7, killing at least one person and injuring 23 more. The attack began at around 10:30 (local time) and the assalilants were reportedly disguised as police. One attacker was killed in an apparent suicide blast at the entrance to the TV station. Security forces killed one of the assailants and ended the attack by 13:00. The status of the third attacker was unknown as of Tuesday evening. The TV station resumed broadcasting shortly after the situation was contained. The Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Context
A number of high profile attacks have occurred in Kabul in recent weeks. On October 31, a suicide bombing occurred in the the Wazir Akhbar Khan (Green Zone) area, killing at least four and wounding 13. A suicide bomber targeted the Marshal Fahim Defense University on October 21, killing at least 15.
