Dominica: Curfew lifted across island December 8
Hurricane-related curfew lifted across the island (including Roseau) December 8
Event
On Friday, December 8, police completely lifted the nightly curfew that had been imposed across Dominica in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in September. Although the curfew had previously been lifted for much of the island in October, parts of the island - including the capital city of Roseau - remained subject to the curfew order until the December 8 announcement. Normal movement can now resume across the entirety of the territory.
Context
Hurricane Maria hit the island on September 18, killing at least 28 people and causing massive damage to the island’s infrastructure. A state of emergency was declared and a nightly curfew was imposed between the hours of 16:00 and 08:00 (local time). The curfew was lifted for most of the island in October.
Advice
Individuals in Dominica are advised to follow any instructions issued by local authorities.
