A 5.9-magnitude earthquake strikes Kerman province December 12; at least 15 people injured
Event
A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Hojedk (Kerman province) in southeastern Iran around 12:13 (local time) on Tuesday, December 12, according to the US Geological Survey. Local media report at least 15 people were left injured in the area, as well as structural damage to several homes. Transportation disruptions are expected in the affected areas, and other infrastructural damage is likely. Additional aftershocks are possible in Kerman province in the coming hours.

Iran is located in a highly active seismic zone and earthquakes are common.
On November 12, a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck the Iran-Iraq border, leaving at least 540 people dead in the region and over 8000 injured.
