At least one person was killed and 11 others injured in an explosion and subsequent fire that broke out at a chemical factory in the city of Fuji on Friday, December 1. Residents living within 100 m (330 ft) of the factory were ordered to evacuate amid firefighting efforts.

Fuji is located near Mount Fuji, some 100 km (60 mi) southwest of the capital Tokyo.
