Event
Unidentified armed men reportedly launched several attacks in Cabo Delgado province in recent weeks. According to police sources, the assailants burned down at least 27 houses and a Christian church in the villages of Mitumbate and Makulo overnight November 29-30. At least two people were killed and four others wounded in the attack.
On November 24, the government ordered three mosques located in the city of Pemba to close on the grounds that they were frequently visited by members of an armed group that attacked police stations in Mocímboa da
Praia (Cabo Delgado province) in October. It remains unclear if the latest attacks are in retaliation to the government’s order. Further attacks cannot be ruled out.
