United Kingdom: Multiple 24-hour CrossCountry rail strikes Dec. 9-31

CrossCountry rail strikes to take place on December 9, 10, 23, 24, 27, and 31; limited service available on those dates

Warning

Event

The Rail, Maritime, and Transport Union for CrossCountry rail in the United Kingdom has called for multiple 24-hour strikes through the end of December, including on Saturday, December 9 and Sunday, December 10, as well as on December 23, 24, 27, and 31. CrossCountry will operate reduced service on the above dates, including shuttle buses on certain routes. Furthermore, some routes (including Edinburgh to Glasgow and Aberdeen) will not operate at all on those dates.

Context

Union leaders, demanding better work-life balance for rail workers, called the strikes after talks with management failed.

Advice

Travelers in the area are advised to confirm rail service on the CrossCountry rail website and plan for alternative modes of transportation as needed.
