Authorities note significant increase in influenza-related hospitalizations during week leading up to January 14; eligible individuals advised to receive vaccine

Public Health England (PHE) recently released statistics noting a 78 percent increase in doctor consultations for symptoms consistent with influenza, a 50 percent increase in influenza-related hospitalizations, and a 65 percent increase in related intensive care admissions in the week leading up to Sunday, January 14, as compared to the week prior. Public health officials have advised that all eligible individuals should receive a vaccine as soon as possible.
