Indonesia: Flooding kills at least four around Jakarta /update 1

Officials confirm at least four people have been killed and ten are still missing due to flooding and landslides around Jakarta as of February 7

Flooding and landslides continue to impact residents in and around the capital city of Jakarta as of Wednesday, February 7. Officials confirmed that three people were killed by a landslide in the village of Warung Menteng, located in the Bogor area (south of Jakarta). Another woman died after an underpass collapsed on her vehicle near the Jakarta airport on Monday, February 5. At least ten people remain missing in the region; rescue operations are ongoing to find the missing residents and to evacuate those in danger. Over 11,000 people have been impacted by the floods and thousands of homes have been damaged. In some areas, such as Cawang, Cililitan, and Kalibata, water levels reached as high as 2 m (6.5 ft).

Flooding is common in Indonesia during the rainy season, which spans from December to March.

Individuals present in and around Jakarta are advised to follow all instructions as issued by local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock an adult over.
