UK: Transportation disruptions in London due to strike March 28-30

Strike cancels DLR service in London March 28 and 29; disruptions may continue into March 30

Warning

Event

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union have scheduled a strike on Wednesday, March 28, and Thursday, March 29, that will suspend all Docklands Light Railway (DLR) service in London for 48 hours, with disruptions potentially continuing until early Friday, March 30. Authorities have warned that the Jubilee, Central, District, and Hammersmith & City lines in east London and the London Overground between Highbury & Islington and Surrey Quays are expected to be busier than normal. In addition, all stations on the Underground near DLR stops are also expected to be extremely busy.

DLR service will be replaced by a shuttle bus at Canning Town station on the Jubilee line for individuals traveling to or from London City Airport (LCY).

Context

The RMT union called for the strike amid an ongoing dispute with the DLR operator, KeolisAmey Docklands.

Advice

Individuals in London are advised to allow for extra time to reach their destinations, expect crowded conditions on other rail lines, and to consult the status of services via the Transport for London website.
